Today was spent visiting the Yangshan Port. Before starting the day, I was a little bit hesitant about how much I would enjoy the trip because I thought that we were traveling for two hours just to see the port for 30 minutes; however, I was more than impressed by the professionalism and knowledge that Mac Sullivan had about business and about the freight forwarding industry. The majority of the bus ride was spent discussing the different ways that cargo and goods can be transported from port A to point B and how his company is involved in that entire process. The company that Mr. Sullivan works for acts as a middle man between the buyer and the seller of the goods.

On the way to the port we saw some cool sights, and the most interesting sight for me was the second longest bridge in the entire world, which spanned over 30 kilometers. I started to think about what kind of engineering it would require to build a bridge with that kind of length and how many people would have to be on the same page to do so.

Once we got to the port, there were two main parts that really popped out to me. First, Mac mentioned a part of the port that was built in only two months and this section was so large that I began to think about how efficient the process must have been. Secondly, once we got past the new portion, the remainder of the port seemed endless. There seemed to be a mile of space dedicated to just containers. Additionally, we learned that the biggest ships can carry anywhere from 12,000 to 15,000 containers which is absolutely astounding.
