Hello everyone, my name is Ben Bertan. I am currently a rising sophomore in the College of Business Administration majoring in Finance and Business Information Systems, minoring in Economics, and pursuing a certificate in Business Analytics (CPBA). I am from a southwest suburb of Pittsburgh about 25 minutes driving from campus.
This past semester was a very busy, but exciting one! I was a junior analyst in the Stock Trading Pitt club, where I will be continuing my involvement in the fall as a senior analyst. I was also a member of Enactus. I worked part time at The Scoring Factory as a coach and look forward to getting back into work after my trip. I played intramural basketball with some friends I met during O-week too! On top of all of this I had my classes too, of course.
Along with working at The Scoring Factory, I will be completing the Wall Street Prep program this summer to continue my education and focus on my interests within the business world.
I am looking forward to departing for China this weekend and am anticipating an excellent trip. I want to go to China for a few main reasons. First of all, this may my most efficient opportunity to travel to China that I will have access to throughout my life. Second, I have always wanted to travel to Asia. Thirdly, I want to have an opportunity to dip my feet in the water that is studying abroad with Pitt. Being that Plus3 is only two weeks I feel that it will be a good indicator to see if I want to try to study abroad again or if this will be too much for me.
I think going to China will provide ample opportunities to grow individually, professionally, and academically. I am excited to be put in situations, daily, that I could never experience domestically. Everything from the learning, the tourist destinations, the way of life, the cultural differences, the architecture and art, and even the bullet trains will be new, to some capacity, to me and I cannot wait to be fully immersed into the culture.
