Day Vier (Four) – Continental, those robots. Regensburg, that beautiful medieval town

Have you ever had a morning when you set the alarm at a certain time, you wake up and turn the alarm off and went straight back to sleep until you realize you’re out of time? Yup, that’s exactly how I started my day.

I was extremely excited to visit Continental, half because I’m really interested in the company half because it’s the company I need to present on so I need to pay extra attention. I had a couple good questions in mind, and everyone in my group, including the German students, came together and went over the questions we wanted to ask on the bus. The two-hour bus ride wasn’t bad because we were talking to the German students about taking a train to Austria to see the Alps during our free day the last day. They were very friendly and helpful, telling us where to go and what to take and what to do is the cheapest. In the end, they said they will take care of the tickets and give us them at the farewell dinner, which is the day before. Sweet right? I love them

The visit at continental turned out to be very interesting. They spoke about their focus on their focus and the future of autonomous vehicle industry. As a company that is widely known for making tires, it was really a surprise to see the various fields they are involved in and their participation of the autonomous vehicle race against other big companies like BMW, Tesla, etc. We ha da tour in their factory that focuses on research and development. We were asked to dress in a rope and tested to make sure we weren’t too negatively or positively charged or something so that when we accidentally touch their machine we won’t destroy the whole factory production line, since everything in there is operated on the computer. The thing that entertained me the most was their full automatics robot that delivers parts to different sectors within the factory. It stops when we get in front of it and tries to go around us on its own. It made me realize how a lot of robots or droids had already generalized in companies’ production lines.

After the factory visit and two short presentations, we left Continental and went to downtown Regensburg. IT WAS AWESOME! Imagine yourself watching a movie or show that takes place in the Medieval times, the view of a city with gate, surrounded by beautiful rivers and the only way to get in and out is a big bridge made out of a rock, yup that is Regensburg. Inside the city was even better: streets made out of cobblestones, buildings with beautiful drawings and sculptures, an absolutely jaw-dropping cathedral in the middle of the town. Regensburg is full of history, knowledge, and stories that give people inspiration and amusement.

Regensburg is no doubt one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. Unlike Asia where I grew up in, unlike America where I’m living now, Regensburg represents the classic medieval style of a city that attracts people from all over the world. It definitely opened my door of wanting to explore more cities like Regensburg in Europe.
