Today we went to Horauf and Kohler, a plastics manufacturer for automobile companies. This tour was definitely different from all the other tours because our guide gave it in German while someone else translated it. This company fit the model of a German mittelstadt, a business that is medium sized. Unlike most of the facilities we have visited, H&K did not have much work going on at the factory. For companies such as BMW, it seemed like there was action in every room, but that was not the case for H&K. There was one room where they had workers create plastics by hand, which was interesting. Our tour guide did not really seem optimistic about the future of H&K, and I appreciate his honesty.
The company tour ended at around 12, and after that, me and my group went to the University of Augsburg to work on our presentation. We first ate lunch at Mensa, which was excellent again. After lunch we began work, and we finalized our presentation. Our group seems to have a lot more comradery than what we had before. Our group was strictly about work at first, but we were joking around more during our meeting. Generally speaking, German people tend to be a little standoffish at first, but when you take the time to break their walls and get to know them, they really open up to you.
