It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.

About Me
Hi everyone! My name is Joe Wright. I’m finishing my Freshman year at the University of Pittsburgh, Swanson School of Engineering. I am majoring in Mechanical Engineering, something that I am very passionate about.
This school year, I co-founded the new Rocketry Team here at Pitt. Over the course of the school year, I’ve learned all about rockets with a focus on the rocket’s stability and aerodynamics. This is a passion of mine, because I love solving complex mechanical problems, and who doesn’t love working with high powered rockets?
Outside of rocketry, I enjoy playing games with my friends and watching TV shows and movies. I can’t wait to watch the final season of Game of Thrones in Germany. Hopefully it will be in English…
Goals
In a month when I’m in Germany, I’m excited to see the inner workings of the automotive industry as it is an industry I can very easily see myself working in later in my career. In particular, I’m interested to see the manufacturing process of companies like Audi and how they are able to mass produce their cars so efficiently.
Outside of my academic interests in the program, I am also incredibly excited to spend two weeks in Germany. Germany is an incredible country with a rich culture, and I’m looking forward to experiencing that culture firsthand. I am also looking forward to meeting the German students, and talking with them to see how student life compares between our two countries. I am also incredibly eager to try German foods as I’ve heard they are delicious.
I ultimately hope this trip will enhance my understanding of the German culture and the automotive industry there as a whole. I still can’t believe I am getting this incredible opportunity to study abroad!
