The event scheduled for today was a visit to Korea’s pristine Hangyang University located in the Sageun-Dong area of Seoul. We arrived at the University around 10:00 am and were given a warm welcome straight off the bus. The Office of International Affairs gave a great presentation about the University. I found it crazy about how much the Korean government regulates the quotas, price, and spending for the school. The University also provided two more additional presentations from teachers on a very interesting course that they provided in the social sciences department as well as one about the brief history of Korea and the Korean peninsula. I learned about how homogeneous North and South Korea are, with them being number one and two in the world with most homogeneous populations. After these presentations, we were given a tour of the campus by students and ate a traditional Korean lunch at the dining hall with them too. We returned back to the hotel when our time at Hangyang was done; A few members and I decided to go out exploring and traveled on the famous Korean subway down to Gangnam and walked around at the large COEX Mall and ate dinner there. The mall, being completely underground, was gigantic and very difficult to navigate, but we made it work. We wandered around Gangnam after leaving the mall for a good hour or two and found the huge Olympic stadium used in the 1988 Olympics held in Seoul (a few photos of the stadium were obviously necessary). Luckily for us, there was a professional baseball game being played at the stadium next door which we attended. It was probably the most fun baseball game I personally have ever been to. There were cheerleaders, singing, dancing, and a lot of enthusiasm from both team’s crowds. The city of Seoul has been treating us well since we have been here and I can’t wait to see what else it has to offer.
Day 4: Just Schooling Around
