I Love Calzones

Our first weekend in Italy! The schedule was very light today, which was appreciated because we could just relax after a full week of excitement. This morning we headed down to the fashion district of Milan, also called the Golden District. We first stopped at 10 Corso Como, an innovative fashion boutique that uses their street address as their name. Their products ranged from shoes to jackets to steamers to lamps, all which were quite expensive. Some styles were pretty out there but still really cool. Wrapping up quickly, we then strolled through the city streets, checking out all the stores of luxury brands we wish we could afford. Our tour guide was explaining that to rent our store space or residential space in this district, it costs from 5000 to 12000 euros per square meter. Of course this makes sense, because we were passing Versace, Giorgio Armani, Balenciaga, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, and much more. There were huge bodyguards in almost every doorway of these stores. I even remember walking past several parked Porsche’s on the streets, about a couple in a row every block. Honestly, I almost felt out of place in this district because I know I am not the target audience for these brands at all, and I was not wearing any designer clothes to fit in either. When the guided tour was over, I headed back to a pizzeria near 10 Corso Como again. We sat outside in the middle of the street to enjoy the beautiful day, and I ordered my first ever calzone. My calzone had mozzarella, prosciutto, and ricotta cheese. This might be a bold statement…but I think this has been my favorite meal in Italy so far. The calzone was absolutely amazing! In the same area after lunch, my friends and I stumbled upon a really cool free event happening in a beauty store named Zalando. A professional makeup artist, known for her work with an Italian fashion influencer, was doing a makeup tutorial for all the guests. We were in a beautiful store, decorated by pink roses all over, a perfect host for the event. They also had stations to get your makeup done, get your hair done, and have a professional photo shoot. I am so glad that this event basically fell into our laps; it was so cool! We left with a complimentary bag with a couple of free beauty samples. It was a nice last day in Milan for awhile, as we are off to Verona tomorrow!!
