Hi everyone, welcome to my Plus3 Cyprus blog! My name is Moriah Eley, and I’m from Central New Jersey. I just declared my major last month: bioengineering! I’m also interested in pursuing a chemistry or polymer engineering minor, but outside of STEM, I find the classics very interesting and am considering a minor in Latin. I’ve been doing karate since I was seven and earned my third degree black belt last June. I also love isopods (aka roly polies or pillbugs), especially rubber ducky isopods, which live in caves in Thailand. I’ve also worked as a camp counselor for many years; this summer, after Plus3, I will work on a medical entomology program for high schoolers.
I chose to go on Plus3 Cyprus because I don’t have a great background in business, and I think more knowledge on supply chains and business in general will be very valuable to me in my professional life. I’m also very interested in how business practices influence and inform engineering, and vice versa. As I mentioned before, I also love the classics, so I can’t imagine a better destination for me. I’m excited to see how Roman, Greek, and other cultures have influenced the island.
Personally, I hope to gain an appreciation for Cyprus’ culture, learn some Greek and Turkish, and make great friends in my group. Professionally, I’m excited to visit all the different companies and learn about how they implement their best business practices with engineering. Academically, I want to walk away from the program with a broader mindset for problem solving and come back to Pitt in the fall ready to tackle some tough engineering classes. I can’t wait to get going!
