Oh the places you’ll go!

Hello! My name is Megan Fleisher, and I am a sophomore pursuing majors in Marketing and Supply Chain Management as well as a Digital Media Certificate. I hope to use my education and experiences to work in nonprofit marketing in order to make positive change in my community and the world. I am currently looking for a nonprofit marketing internship this summer in Cleveland, OH, so that I can start to get a feel for the business environment in real time.

Outside of the classroom, I am actively involved in extracurriculars. I am an active member of the American Marketing Association as a part of the Public Relations Committee. I am also a Sister of Alpha Epsilon Phi which I just joined this spring semester. I am also a part of The University of Pittsburgh’s Women’s Chorale Ensemble where I am the current incoming Vice President. I love to dance, travel, try new foods, thrift, hike, camp, paint, watch movies/TV, and more.

I chose to participate in an international program this summer because I want to go out and see the world and have new experiences. With the COVID-19 pandemic, I have not been able to travel, so I am feeling immensely grateful for the opportunity to travel anywhere internationally. I chose the Plus 3 Ireland trip in particular because I was looking for a shorter summer program that was still going to feel immersive in that location. The Plus 3 Ireland trip is a perfect fit for me as it is only two weeks in duration, giving me enough time for a full-time summer internship. Additionally, I have never been to Ireland, so I am excited to see and experience a new place. Here are some of the main things I wish to get out of this trip:

  1. Personally, I hope to make new connections and friendships not only within the members of the Plus 3 Ireland group but also with people we meet along the way. I want to come home from the trip having a new understanding and appreciation for Irish culture and history. Also, I want to become more comfortable as a young adult travelling internationally as someday I hope to travel on my own.
  2. Academically, I hope to gain new insights from our lectures and sight visits that I can apply to my coursework at Pitt and beyond. I want to learn more about how international business differs from business in the U.S. Overall, I want to broaden my scope of knowledge to include a more global mindset and world view.
  3. Professionally, I hope to network with the people we meet throughout the trip and then utilize these new connections as resources in the future. I want to become more comfortable asking questions and marketing myself and my skills as an asset.
