Hi everyone! My name is Asyah Smith (pronounced asia), I am from Charleroi, Pennsylvania which is about 40 minutes from the Pitt-greensburg campus. I am the oldest of 3 siblings, my youngest brother just turned one years old! On my spare time I like to go shopping, hang out with my friends, and travel. I have been to 4 countries not including the United Kingdom. I am a freshman Nursing student at the Pitt-Greensburg campus and I am involved in the Student Nurses Association and the Black student Union. After I graduate I would like to gain experience and go back to school to get a Masters and maybe a Doctorate degree. I’m not quite sure what I would like to specialized in yet.
I chose to go on Plus3 UK because of the focus on nursing, education and diversity during the trip. I’m thrilled to learn about the way the British work in the hospitals and the classroom. It is a great opportunity to bring back knowledge to my peers on what I learned and see how customs I learned could be implemented in the hospitals and schools here in America. Diversity plays a big part in everyday life all around the world. However, I only know about the diversity issues in America. On this trip I hope to learn more about how diversity is influenced in the UK, if it is any better than it is in America and if their government is doing anything to prevent/help racial bias. Altogether, I am so excited to broaden my knowledge on the UK culture!
