Hi! I’m Matthew, an avid chocolate consumer and occasional flower smeller.
I am one of the 12 students traveling to Ecuador with Plus3. Throughout the course of the past spring semester, we have been learning about the country’s unique place in both the chocolate and flower global markets. This culminates with a two-week study abroad trip upcoming in May, in which we’ll get to see the real life manifestations of everything we’ve learned this semester, including many important aspects of the chocolate and flower global supply chains.
A little bit about me! I am originally from Las Vegas, NV. (Outside Philly like most Pitt students, although maybe a bit farther than most). I am currently a first-year student majoring in Marketing and Business Information Systems. Outside of the classroom, I am a Pitt Pathfinder, the student tour guides on campus, and a member of PGN, a professional business organization on campus, where I currently serve as VP of New Membership.
I am extremely excited to travel to Ecuador. Plus3 will actually be my second time “abroad” with Pitt Business! I was previously a participant in the 2021 Haller Global Honors Fellowship. As an incoming freshman, it was my first exposure to many of the fundamentals of business and now that I’ve had more exposure, Plus3 is an opportunity to once again step into the world of “study abroad” with more knowledge than I had before.
As I mentioned before, I am an occasional chocolate consumer and flower smeller. However, this time, I’ll get to consume and smell right at the source! Fresh! And also, I’ll get to learn a lot more about what business means in the global context.
