¡Me encanta café!

¡Hola amigos! My name is Kira Erickson and I am currently enrolled in the Business school as a finance major. With very little time until our Costa Rica trip approaches, I am getting more thrilled for the adventure that awaits. Although it is well known that Costa Rica is an incredibly beautiful country, what is not talked about is Costa Rica’s sustainability efforts. According to the World Energy Council, Costa Rica is named the number two most sustainable country in the world.

One effort that I personally relate to is the idea of Ecotourism. Costa Rica has adopted the idea of responsible tourism. Several national parks, wildlife reserves, and conservation projects have been created in order to protect the land while also giving people the opportunity to enjoy it at the same time.

Another very impressive task that Costa Rica has taken on is reversing deforestation. In the 90’s Costa Rica experienced their highest deforestation rates, affecting the biodiversity of the country. One of the main reasons why deforestation was occurring was because of coffee farms. There needed to be more space in order to grow coffee and bananas. As a result of reversing this deforestation, biodiversity loss will be stopped, there will be an increase of forest coverage, and there will be a steady economic growth.

After reading about Costa Rica, I have developed a lot of respect for the country. They try to preserve the beauty that it holds while also allowing others to come and enjoy it. I think Costa Rica’s sustainably efforts are very impressive and unfortunately progressive. Other countries need to adopt these principles that Costa Rica values in their country

I am extremely excited to go to Costa Rica for many reasons. I think my number one reason is because of the beauty. I have seen so many pictures of the country and I can’t wait to see it myself. I also love coffee, hence the title of this post, and fruit, which we will be eating a lot of. I’m also excited to make new friends and memories on this trip.
