And we’re off! The time has finally come to explore Germany! After a few delays at the airport (thank you American Airlines), we landed safely in Munich. Good things really do come to those who wait, however, because my first day in Germany was awesome. We began with a short introductory presentation by Professor Korbinian Knoll, a professor at the University of Augsburg. His presentation was very good, and very informative. Afterwards, I got a snack at McDonald’s where I ordered a McRib. I thought this was very interesting, since its very rare to find the McRib in any US McDonald’s. The German McDonald’s menu had chicken wings, which I found interesting as well.
Later that day, we toured The Fuggerei, which is the world’s oldest remaining social housing complex. Everything about the place was amazing. Besides the history behind the housing complex, I really enjoyed the beautiful architecture of the buildings.
Finally, we ended the day by dining with German students from the University of Augsburg. I cannot speak highly enough of the students. They welcomed us with open arms and made us feel right at home. We exchanged stories about our home countries, and were able to build the beginnings of strong friendships. Also, I got to try Spezi (German soda) for the first time!
Overall, I was very impressed with the city of Augsburg on my first day here. The city seems very nice, and I am so excited to continue exploring what this beautiful place has to offer.
