Today, we traveled to Limassol to visit Medochemie’s headquarters to learn about their extensive quality assurance plan as well as their approach in business planning/forecasting. Medochemie is a pharmaceutical company with over eighteen-hundred employees spread across offices in twenty-one different countries. Medochemie is committed to producing quality and affordable medicine while maintaining their sustainability goals. The Medochemie staff detailed their quality assurance plan which included steps such as testing their raw materials, maintaining the efficiency of their equipment, and ensuring the facility is the correct temperature and humidity. Medochemie is held to the Good Manufacturing Practice (G.M.P.) that is governed by the European Union. This practice is put in place to keep companies accountable for the quality and effectiveness of their products. Moreover, the employees discussed how they are able to predict sales which then determines the quantity of raw materials that are needed. The employees thoroughly went over operational planning, budget planning, materials scheduling and how often these schedules need to be made. Later on in the tour we were able to tour their warehouse which was equipped with modern technology such as motioned activated gates and rows of self moving crate storage.
Following the tour with Medochemie we ate a delicious lunch at the University of Nicosia and listened to a lecture given by leaders of the video game company Wargaming. Wargaming was founded in 1998 and in just twenty four years they received the DICE award, four golden joystick awards, and currently hold two Guinness world records. Wargaming’s mission is to deliver legendary games globally with passion and they have succeeded in their mission through their success in the world of tanks, world of warships, and world of warplanes video games. The employees discussed the lengthy game development process and how important it is for companies to understand if a game is marketable or not. Overall, both presentations were very helpful in explaining the complexities revolving around international business.
