Today (May 9th) was our second day in Augsburg and we started by taking the streetcar to the University of Augsburg. We met again with the German students and worked on our first group presentation. My group is presenting the company Hoerbiger. It is a supplier for various products ranging from compression technology to industrial explosion protection. They also produce many components needed in the automobile industry. The groups are mixed with American and German students so they were able to take us to a different spot on campus to do our work. The presentation was a brief overview of your company so our group was able to find useful information about Hoerbiger and share it with the class. We also ran into the campus cat once we started walking around. It must have been a good luck charm!
After our presentations, we had lunch and then a campus tour/scavenger hunt. The campus was beautiful as there were many colors and greenery around. There was also a pond and a pretty stream that went through campus. We started the scavenger hunt at the university, but it was throughout all of Augsburg and it was truly an adventure. The scavenger hunt took us hours wandering around the city learning and finding information about Augsburg’s history. We had to stop at two beautiful churches and multiple water fountains. We were not allowed to use google so we also had to ask people on the street for certain answers. It was very funny because we learned that most Germans are not used to being approached on the street. Most people walked away from us thinking we were crazy, while some were committed to helping us find the answer. However, if a bunch of Americans started coming toward you and asking you questions in English, you would run away too…
We finally finished off the day by eating at Dragone, an Italian restaurant. I ordered a pizza and it came out with no slices, only a fork and knife. Lets just say it took a long time to finish and not a long time for me to give up and start cutting trianlge slices.
