Day 6 & 7: road to Paphos

This weekend was a perfect break from all of the business meetings, but still packed with rich culture and history. The bus ride was different Saturday, as we picked up our tour guide from the tour of the old city. During the bus ride to each site, she gave us a ton of facts about the country. She told us about how the flowers we see so often are poisonous, pointed out different buildings as we passed, and told us about the carob trees that produce a sweet syrup.

Throughout the bus ride we had multiple stops at historic sites. Our first stop was the Kourion archaeological site where we saw an amazing amphitheater. Our second stop was Aphrodite’s Rock. Leading up to this trip, I was most excited to see Aphrodite’s rock and it didn’t disappoint. Our last stop before lunch was the Tomb of the Kings, where the people were not actually kings.

We then had lunch in Paphos harbor at Pelican Tavern where there was a live pelican roaming about the restaurant. Before the next tour we had some time to walk around the harbor and get gelato. I had dark chocolate gelato.

My favorite part of the day was the tour of Paphos Mosaics. It is amazing how much our tour guide knows, I want her to be my grandma. I love to hear about greek mythology and the mosaics all had a story behind them, while also being an amazing work of art.

We ended Saturday by exploring Paphos and experiencing the night life!

Sunday was the beach day I have been waiting for! Breakfast at the Anemi hotel had a variety of pastries and other foods, as well as the carob syrup that I added to my cappuccino. Then we checked out of the hotel and headed to the beach early. The medterranean did not disappoint. Clear blue water and light waves made the sea irresistible! We played soccer and sunbathed before leaving the beach for lunch. I had overnight oats at lunch and then we loaded the bus back to Nicosia.

Once we were back to the hotel, we chilled the rest of the night!
