Hi everyone! I’m Izzy John and in less than a month, I’ll be embarking on the Plus 3 trip to Ecuador! I’m a freshman planning to major in Business Information Systems and Global Management (with a concentration in Latin America) and a certificate in Data Analytics. On campus, I’m the publicity freshman chair for the South Asian Student Association, an active member in Phi Beta Lambda, and a volunteer for the Pitt Pantry.
I’m from Downingtown, PA which is about 45 minutes from Philly. I love to watch movies/tv shows and some of my favorites are Jane the Virgin, Fleabag, The Truman Show, and Inception. I also like to listen to all kinds of music with my top artists being Bruno Mars, Laufey, Ella Fitzgerald, and PinkPanthress. I enjoy cooking (but I’m a horrible baker) and outdoor activities when it’s nice out like hiking, kayaking, and swimming.
I’ve always loved to travel and knew that I would have to study abroad at least once in college. I’m so fortunate to be able to do that in my freshman year! As a Global Management major with a hope to work internationally in the future, I can’t wait to learn more about the chocolate and rose industries in Ecuador. I’m very interested to see how their way of conducting business differs from the US. I look forward to seeing how they implement sustainable business practices. I’ve also studied Spanish since elementary school and hope I can practice my skills while I’m there.
Aside from that, I know this trip will be quite the adventure. I haven’t had the chance to visit South America yet so I’m excited to see the incredible biodiversity there. After reading last year’s blogs, it’s clear that everyone experienced things in the Amazon they never had before and came home with so many stories to tell. I hope the same happens for me and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.
