Hey everyone! My name is Maria Fabregas, and I am from Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, which is about 30 minutes north of Pittsburgh. I am studying nursing at Pitt because I have always had an interest in healthcare, and I enjoy helping others. I have always wanted to make a difference in people’s lives, and with the number of opportunities available to grow in the nursing field, I knew nursing was the right choice for me.
I have chosen to attend the Plus3 Argentina program because I want to learn more about health management and how healthcare systems operate. By expanding my knowledge from the healthcare system in the United States and seeing how other countries view and use healthcare, I think this can have a major impact on my nursing career in the future. I have always wanted to study abroad from a young age, and being of Hispanic descent myself, I had an automatic draw to Argentina.
I hope to accomplish a better understanding of globalization and its effects on healthcare. I also hope to meet residents of Argentina and hopefully have conversations with them, whether that be about healthcare or just their general life stories. I hope to try new foods and absorb the culture of Argentina, and build relationships with other students on the trip. Overall, I am so excited to attend Plus3 Argentina to pursue my academic and cultural goals.
