Hello everyone, I’m Alicia Davis and I would like to let you all know a little more about me! Currently, I am finishing up my first year here at the University of Pittsburgh’s College of Business Administration. I am pursuing a major in Marketing and Finance as well as the Certificate Program in Leadership and Ethics. I’m not entirely sure what path I want to go down with this degree but I am interested in the sports and fashion industries. On campus I am the service chair for my sorority Theta Phi Alpha and I am an analyst for Smart Women Securities, an investment club.
I am from Crystal Lake, Illinois which is outside of Chicago. In my free time I love going outside, hanging out with friends, and trying new things. Over the summer I am excited to spend time on the lake skiing and tubing as well as spending time with friends and family. Over the summer I will also be working as a manager at a local pool and teaching swim lessons which I am really excited for.
However, this summer I am most excited for Plus 3 Netherlands! I decided to take advantage of this opportunity because it was my first chance as a first year to study abroad which has always been a goal of mine. Additionally I was really interested to see how the supply chain works on a global scale which is what Plus 3 Netherlands highlights. This experience will greatly affect me academically because I will be able to see first hand how we go from concept to consumer first hand which is what we learn in class. In my future academic career I will then be able to continue to refer back to this experience to see how my future assignments apply to the real world as well.
This experience will help me grow professionally because I will have the opportunity to talk to big companies and ask questions in an environment I would otherwise never be in. I will be able to take any advice they give me and apply it to my future professional endeavors. This is also a great way for me to make connections that may help me in the future because “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know” and you never know how someone you will meet can help you in your future.
Finally, this opportunity will help me grow personally as well. Traveling abroad will allow me to experience more culture and a different way of life that I wouldn’t other wise experience living here in the United States. I am very excited to try Dutch food and see how different the day to day life is. This will teach me to become more culturally aware and get me out of my bubble that I have been living in all my life. Overall, I am very gracious that I get this opportunity and I am excited to take full advantage of what the Netherlands has to offer me!
