Hi everyone. My name is John Harwell, I’m a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh, currently pursuing a major in Supply Chain Management and a minor in Economics. I’m from Flemington, New Jersey, and enjoy volleyball, music, snowboarding, and going to the beach. On campus I am a member of Delta Sigma Pi, a professional fraternity.
This summer I’ll be spending two weeks traveling Ecuador with Pitt Business Plus3 program. I will get to explore the production process and supply chain of chocolate and flowers, two of the country’s biggest industries. I chose this program because of my interest in Supply Chain Management but also because I’ve always wanted to travel to South America. I love the culture, the language, the food, and the natural environment.
During this experience I hope to learn the various steps and aspects of a real-life supply chain. I want this real-world perspective to shape how I understand and pursue my future academics. I’m eager to see different lifestyles and gain a new viewpoint on the world. I am extremely excited for this trip and can’t wait for Ecuador.
