Hey everyone! My name is Will Miller and I am almost done with my first year at the Swanson School of Engineering. I intend to major in bioengineering on the cellular engineering track with a minor in chemistry and a certificate in the conceptual foundations of medicine. After my undergraduate years at Pitt, I plan to attend medical school, but I also have interests in medical products and biotechnology. Beyond academics, I enjoy trying new restaurants and movies with my friends, and I am involved with Biomedical Engineering Society and Pitt Alumni Student Network. My hometown is Lancaster, PA, where there is a prominent Amish community that speaks Pennsylvania Dutch. However, the name PA Dutch is misleading because the PA Dutch are of German descent and not from the Netherlands.
When I was making my college decisions, one of the major aspects of Pitt that appealed to me was the plethora of opportunities for students, especially engineers, to study abroad. Once I committed to Pitt, I knew I wanted to participate in a Plus3 program. I really appreciate the program’s focus on the intersection between engineering and business, specifically the emphasis on supply chain management in the Netherlands Plus3 program. No matter the specific field I enter after my education, I will be working with technology, so it will be important to understand where and how certain devices were produced.
In addition to learning about supply chain management from business leaders in the Netherlands, I am equally excited to experience a new culture. I have never traveled abroad before, so I am eager to explore a completely new environment and learn about different lifestyles across the world! Studying abroad is an incredibly enriching opportunity to make long-lasting memories and learn skills not found in the classroom. I hope to expand my network in the Netherlands and apply my knowledge from this program to any future career I chose!
