Costa Rica’s sustainability plans and new policies demonstrate their progressive mindset and its positive affect on the country’s well being. I have a great deal of respect for the policies in systems implemented in Costa Rica starting in the 90s considering they promote a healthier and progressive way of living. Costa Rica adapted environment friendly and economically stable social systems and investment policies that set them aside from other countries and grant them their top 20 ranking amongst environmentally sustainable countries.
A first major initiative taken by Costa Rica to promote environment friendly progressiveness is their increased promotion of ecotourism. Ecotourism is a way for Costa Rica to preserve their environment in its natural state while also generating a large sum of profit. Their dense rainforests are a popular tourist spot and help promote Costa Rica’s most profitable industry, tourism.
A second, more relevant, initiative taken by Costa Rica is their fostering of organic farming. Organic farming presents an industry that is environment friendly in the sense that there are very little too few carbon emissions. Things like bananas and coffee are farmed in a way that not only is safe for the environment, but also presents an opportunity for tourism. This, in return, boosts the economy in a progressive way.
I am ecstatic to get to Costa Rica and see all of these promotions and initiatives first hand! I am most excited for the tours in which we will see how things like bananas and coffee are created and how they ultimately end up at our local supermarkets here in the US.
