We started our day off in Nordenberg Hall as we prepared to embark on our journey to Cyprus. At about 11:45 a.m. we headed down to the lobby and started boarding our bus to the airport. Roughly 30 quick minutes later, we arrived at Pittsburgh International Airport. Once through security, we found our gate and waited for boarding. Our first flight was to Dulles International Airport (Washington D.C.) and was a quick and easy 45-minute flight with no issues or implications. Next, came the most exhausting and draining part of the journey so far. After arriving at IAD we had a short layover before our flight to Frankfurt, Germany.
This flight to Germany was my first time flying to another country and continent. At first, I was very nervous as flying is not my thing and now I was tasked with a 7-hour flight overseas. Besides the cramped seats, hot cabin, and microwave dinner, the flight was surprisingly easy and smooth. The plane also had a great arrangement of movies that kept me occupied throughout most of the flight. Arriving in Germany, It didn’t seem much different from Pittsburgh from a looks standpoint of the country. However, the way the airport worked and the thousands of German-speaking people were quite different. Getting off the plane was also a new experience as we exited onto the tarmac and then were transported to the terminals in shuttles that drove adjacent to the taxi ways.
After landing in Germany, we had a long layover so our group naturally decided to explore the airport. One thing I noticed was that there weren’t too many fast food restaurants at the airport, for the most part, everything seemed to be sit-down or a run-in convenience store. I decided to try some chocolate and a Bratwurst which were very good. Cyprus is only four hours away and our groups excitement is through the roof.
