Food. Culture. Kindness. Those are the first three things that come to mind after spending a full day here in Costa Rica.
Honestly, they match my expectations pretty well, because I came here knowing that food would be a huge part of the trip, and already, our host mom has made us delicious meals (she gave us chocolate cake for breakfast!), we had a huge lunch where there was endless amounts of food coming to us, and in about an hour I will be sitting down for yet another meal made by my host mom. I swear, I get better treatment here than at home!
Our first day here was very exciting because we got to tour the city, and we even experienced some live music and dancing in front of the church and gazebo. This was cool because we were able to see some culture, which, again, I knew was a huge part of Costa Rican life.
We also got together as a group and played soccer, which is an activity that it seems many Costa Rican kids enjoy, because we had 4 of them come and join us in playing.
The kindness in the people I have met today was also amazing; so many people we passed on the road said hello and asked us how we were. I was greeted with smiles from all. Although now that I think about it, it’s probably because they could tell we are American tourists.
There is absolutely nothing to complain about here. I could get used to this life!
