Day 4- Man, the Coffees Hit at Britt

The actors showing us the growing stages of the coffee plant.

Today we went on a tour at Café Britt and learned a lot about the company’s financial success, how coffee beans are cared for and roasted to the high quality coffee that they sell today. One thing to note is that even though Café Britt is well known and most tourists love trying their coffee, the ticos (or locals) here don’t really care for it. This is mainly because they are used to drinking the commercial, low quality coffee since the high quality coffee is shipped across the world. Like why care about expensive, high quality coffee, when they can eat gallo pinto all day?

Wait…But How is Café Britt Different from the Doka Estate?

If you didn’t know, yesterday we visited the Doka Estate which also gave us a coffee tour. Even today, I was wondering what the difference was. Like don’t they all just grow coffee, dry, roast them and do the same thing? Wrong.

Although a bit similar, Café Britt is a “Roaster” and Doka just produces/grows the coffee in their plantations, has pickers that pick the good, ripe beans, then the workers ferment and dry them until it becomes the “golden bean”. They usually ship them unroasted so that the coffee bean lasts longer. Café Britt takes prepared coffee beans from multiple plantations like Doka in Costa Rica, roasts them, and then ships them out.

That’s why the actors gave us a brief summary of the coffee production process, whereas Doka went into depth about how the coffee is grown and dried.

Us walking through a small plantation to see some coffee plants, and other trees like banana and cacao. It was beautiful.

What Makes Café Britt Successful?

The actors making us laugh at how they were slurping the coffee.

Café Britt is successful because they attract a lot of tourism with their coffee tours and marketing skills. They make sure to have engaging actors like the people we saw today, who make the tours humorous and enjoyable. These great tours are what attract tourists to go on their website or to their gift shops to buy their coffee, chocolate, or other products.

They also have multiple gift shops in different countries like Peru and they sell their coffee in restaurants, hotels, and other travel retail stores. This keeps their business booming and attractive in multiple areas for consumers.

My team’s topic for our project is “Delivery”. The fact that Café Britt has many locations where they deliver their products is why their company is successful. Their smart strategy of targeting tourists, makes their delivery technique easier and increases their company’s popularity. I think their approach is great. I’m not a marketing expert, so I’m not sure what I would do differently.

Fun Pics from Today….Because Why Not?

Cute sheep eating…some of them were low-key aggressive..like sheesh.
