Tuesday started off with a walk to Charles University. On the way there, our guide told us a bit more about the buildings we passed. We were able to get a closer look at my favorite building so far- the Czech National Bank. I love the communist architecture that makes this building look so grand and beautiful!
At the university, we were given a history lesson by one of the professors. She talked about Czech history from the world wars to the Soviet era. We learned about Prague Spring, and other interesting events that have shaped the country and city we see today. After the lecture, we did a scavenger hunt! The hunt had us running around the city in groups. We visited the church of Jan Hus, the Charles Bridge, and the famous baby statues. Although my group came in second place (by one minute), it was a fun afternoon!
Lunch was at a cozy outdoor restaurant. I enjoyed a traditional Czech meal of fried cheese and tartar with a rosé gin and tonic.
After lunch, we headed to our first company visit. We met with the engineers of the company in a classroom at the technical university, which allowed us to see more of the campus and the local students that attend it. The company was called TechTest and we learned about their oil and grease detection device.
After a nap, we had dinner on a rooftop that overlooked the city. The truffle pasta and a view of the Prague Castle was perfect after such a long day. Last, we headed on the tram to a hostel that we heard had a great karaoke scene! The rumor was true! The hostel was cute and artsy and filled with karaoke lovers! We quickly signed up and took over the mic! From Drake to Alanis Morissette to a great rendition of Sweet Caroline, we had the best night!
