Day at Grob

This morning was a late start which was a nice way to start the day. We took a bus ride to Grob which is a company that makes machines to sell to other companies to create their products. I initially thought I wouldn’t find this company interesting but I have to say this was my favorite company so far. Grob was very different from Hoerbiger. Grob was about three times the size of Hoerbiger and you could tell that this company was older as it was more put together.

The first thing we did at Grob was listen to a presentation from a worker on the engineering side of the company. From the lecture, I learned the basics of the company and the logistics of how the company works. I also learned the various applications their machines have. They sell machines to all spectrums of life which shows the diversity of their company.

From the presentation, I realized that Grob will have an easier time making the switch to a more autonomous and electric world than Hoerbiger will. Grob is already making steps in that direction while Hoerbiger is more limited in their work and will most likely have to revise their products fully to be able to sell to the new market. Grob only has to make minor details to their already built machines to fit the new market.

After the presentation, we went on a tour of Grob. They have multiple buildings where their manufacturing takes place which tells you the size of their company. I was amazed by the size of their machines. About three took up a whole building as each machine had different steps that had a new section of the machine.

I am excited to see how Forvia compares to the two companies we already visited.
