Day Five- Equity

Hey guys. We just got back from a crazy day. I woke up at around 6:45, showered and went to breakfast. I found out for the first time since we’ve been here that they serve eggs. They were amazing. But my real day all started with a visit to another public hospital! We got a thorough tour of the facility along with some great Q/A’s. There was a really cool fact that our guide told us which was that the hospital is just two floors so that in case of a war, it would be very difficult to identify the hospital. Afterwards, we went to the National University of La Matanza. We learned how their system differs in addition to seeing the classrooms, simulation pods for nursing students, their 3D printer rooms and learning why they use them and more! It was really cool to see the 3D printer room because the operating professor told us how their products made from their machines use material from recycled plastic in order to promote sustainability efforts. Throughout our time today, it became clear that the healthcare and education systems promote equity across the nation. This is due to the fact that everyone has access to public education no matter what background someone may have. Just the idea that these public universities reach out to those who may otherwise not have the option or opportunity to a college education due to financial issues just emphasizes the idea of promoting equity by simply being readily available to every person. When discussing the public hospitals, it’s pretty easy to say that they promote equity, as everyone may come at any time for care. There are no restraints or restrictions on financial background or anything like that. Anyone at any time may come to the public hospitals without having to worry about fiscal responsibilities that may follow their visit. When analyzing the term “equity”, we really need to be focusing on the idea that some people need to be handled and treated differently according to their financial situation. With just equality, we are only making decisions surrounding everyone as a whole and producing set policies that numerically work for some, but absolutely do not for others. However, equity actually administers the real definition of “equality”. So, when we look at these two Argentine systems, it’s clear for us to say that both systems promote equity every single day. They cater their services and resources in a way that it’s possible to reach everybody.
