War and Peace

Today we headed to Nicosia to go to the headquarters of Wargaming, a game-developing company. While at Wargaming some things that surprised me were their target audience, the magnitude of revenue that mobile games bring, and ways that Wargaming competes with other companies to make their product stick out. When it comes to their target audience, they said that their player base is males who are 30+. This stuck out to me as I wouldn’t think that this demographic would be into playing video games, but I was proven wrong. When we asked about console/PC/mobile games and how much revenue they bring, the Wargaming representatives told us that mobile games trump the others by a landslide. One final thing I learned and thought was interesting was the different ways that Wargaming chooses to stick out while competing with competitors. Wargaming believes that the quality of their product is proven by depth. With that being said, Wargaming will implement such realism into their games that requires someone from their team actually going out to scan tanks and collect their noises and structure to be extremely historically accurate. We also learned that they don’t really have too much of a supply chain external of their own company as their product is completely digital.

After the company visit, we headed back to UNic to attend lectures and meet some students. We started with Dr. Yfantis who gave us a lecture on the Supply Chain and the environment. He taught us about how we can calculate the number of emissions we produce when traveling using different types of transportation such as cars, planes, and ships. As a part of this lecture, I learned how the increased capacity of goods will lead to increased efficiency when it comes to releasing less emissions. After this lecture we had a chance to work on teamwork and collaboration lead by Dr. Nicolaou. During the activities she set up, we worked with students at UNic and were able to make new friends and solve problems.

Our final activity of the day was when we had a tour of the Old Town in Nicosia. Here we were able to see the edge of the Green Line and even pass by some soldiers guarding it. Along with this, we saw beautiful churches and old architecture that has been there for a long long time. At the end of the day, we had some free time to explore the beautiful central street that the Old Town of Nicosia has to offer. The group I went with met a very nice Greek Cypriot who gave us great Cypriot gelato.
