5/12: To the mines!

Today, we had a very eventful day. We started out with an hour bus ride to the power plant. We then did a tour of the plant, including looking off the balcony 28 stories up! Afterwards, we had an awesome catered lunch, and then watched a fun 3D movie. We then went to the open brown coal mine, which was awesome to see. Apart from all of the coal dust that got all over me, I would not change a thing about this tour. The machinery was actually unbelievable. Afterwards, we said farewell, and went home to eat and change before the black light theater! The theater was so so cute, and I am really glad I got to see it! The violin scene was my favorite.

A misconception I had about Prague and Czech people is that them being quiet and reserved was just introversion and not wanting to engage. As Sarka said, the recent and tragic history of this country required that people stay quiet and not open up to avoid getting in trouble. Many adults at this point have lived through communism, the Soviet rule, and other revolutions. It makes sense that this quietness is something that is preserved because this was such a stressful and tragic time in everyone’s life. Another, less significant, thing is that I didn’t realize how big of an art scene there is here (including the black light theater).
