Another day, another site tour! We started the morning back at the Docklands where Dr. Kelly continue his lecture about business in Dublin and the impacts of debts and his personal story. It was a nice full circle moment when host mom in the states gave him 10,000 euros for a down payment on a house! We then walked to Trinity College where we met with Docusign. They gave a presentation about what Docusign actually is and the type of business it is.
On this trip, we met with two technology companies, Google and Docusign. Google seems to have a more welcoming environment than Docusign. They encourage their employees to do different things sponsored by Google like Yoga, mediation, and different classes. They have a lot of resources and benefits for their employees. Some of these include a doctor in the office, food, workout facilities, mental health services, and so much more. Meanwhile, it seems like Docusign doesn’t have as strong as a culture especially because they just replaced all their executives. They also don’t have those resources that Google has to support their employees. They are more old-school in that sense. From a multi-national point of view, Google is well done throughout the whole world and everyone uses their products at point or another whether thats google or google drive products. They have a mark on most of the world. Meanwhile Docusign is primarily used in America. Michael talked about how people in Europe don’t use Docusign for contracts. They still use paper. Because of this, it is hard for Docusign to market their product across the world because they are competing with paper. From that stance, Google has more of a multi-national business.
Michael was our presenter today from Docusign, and he had a unique professional path to get to where he is today. He took 2 years off work to travel, which I thought was pretty cool. He mentioned how while it might have staled his career, he has no regret doing it and learned a lot. I thought that was amazing especially in this point of time it’s even easier to do so because there are a lot more remote jobs. You can still work and travel around and experience different cultures. This probably helps him in his job now because he is working with different countries and having that background and diversity.
After Trinity College we went shopping which is always a good time! On our way back we stopped an ice cream shop, Scoop. It was absolutely delicious 10/10. It’s crazy that we’ve been here for almost a week! I’m excited for our day trip tomorrow!
