Cruisin’ Around Rotterdam

Today was an early start, 7 am to be exact. We all had to pack up for our Rotterdam visit last night, and left the hostel at 8am to embark on our journey. As much as we were excited to leave, it’s not a travel day without something going wrong. Our first train got canceled and set us back some time, and I left my lunch on the train. Luckily, we got a second train, and headed towards Rotterdam (unfortunately with no banana or muffin in hand).

After getting to our hostel, we got to walk around for a little while to find some food. Franny, Lauren, and I went to a brunch place called Ted’s Restaurant, but could only grab coffee and croissants for the road on our time crunch… great cappuccino though! We all got back together again and took the train to Rotterdam’s famous floating farm. We talked to a founder of the farm, Minke, about its history and importance in the community. The farm is substantial in sustaining the city with nutrients while being very densely populated. A fun fact I learned about the farm is that all of its cows are fed grass from the famous soccer field nearby; only the best of the best for the food’s providers! The cows themselves were bigger than I expected, and we got to pet them as they ate their grass on the farm. Pretty nice cows if you ask me. There was a taste testing of their milk after the farm and it was delicious, except for the buttermilk. I’m definitely not a buttermilk girl.

We trained into the city center for food and our harbor cruise in the evening. Some of us walked across the large bridge to an Italian place where I got the best pizza of my LIFE. The picture explains it all. After eating we walked back to meet up with everybody and hop on the boat. It was very nice getting to sit and chat with everybody on the water, and thank you Frank and Dr. Bursic for the soda; I love a good free bev.

Personally, I think dinner was the best part of the night. We ate at the Bazar, and the food was incredible. We got veal and chicken kebabs with rice and chickpea soup. I know when I go to bed tonight, I’m gonna dream of that meal. Thank you Rotterdam and good night!
