Today we visited cloud forest. With the beautiful views, the feel of nature, and some amazing animals this was an unforgettable experience. This made me understand the controversy between conservation, productivity, and sustainability.
Conservation has to do with doing whatever you have to do to protect natural resources. Productivity is all about how efficiently you can produce goods or services. Lastly, sustainability is finding the best of conservation and productivity, and being able to maintain it.
If I was to be honest, if I was to choose which was more important I would say sustainability simply, because if you focus too much on conservation in the business, then you would like productivity. Just like if you focused on productivity, you are most likely use more natural resources, which would completely destroy our natural resources. Which cannot happen in Costa Rica, due to the fact that the majority of their revenue comes from tourism.
A big issue that I realize a lot of businesses in Costa Rica have was of the result of COVID-19. They started making money because they had invested almost everything in tourism. As a result in Monte Verde, they had to work together to make sure everybody was able to eat and getting food by getting all the businesses and people to work together to build each other back up. They did this by planning food and trading for it and making sure the people got compensation for their efforts. So this used all 3 conservation, productivity, and sustainability.
