¡Hola! Today was an early day like usual, and we headed back to Sanatorio de los Arcos! We listened to a presentation from Dr. Marcela Travaglini about mutualism! I learned about the many benefits there are to joining a mutual, those of which are philosophical and practical. On the philosophical side, many people believe in the aspect of “helping thy neighbor”, and mutualism is all about that. Instead of joining a large insurance company with people who you don’t know (with health insurance), you’re joining an organization (a mutual) ran by friends and neighbors, not an administrator. Mutuals have the singular objective of helping each other. As for the practical benefits, it is cheaper than joining health insurance, even though both have a similar purpose.
After that, we headed to ICBA, a private cardiology clinic (hence the title of this blog)! I really enjoyed this visit, and when we first got into the auditorium, a heart surgery was projected onto the board by surprise. It was really cool to see this for a couple minutes since we hadn’t seen any surgical procedures! We also got a tour of the facility and it is really nice inside. Their waiting room was made to mimic an “airport lounge”, and we went into one of the procedure rooms, where there was music and color changing lights for patients. I thought the facility was very interesting to tour.
We then got free time for lunch, and Salma, Adriana, and I headed to Club de la Ensalada, which is down the street from the hotel. We got salads and a side of potatoes. When we met back up with the group an hour later, we headed to the Immigration Museum, for an educational yet interesting tour. The facility used to be a hotel that hosted 3,000 people per week, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If people coming to Buenos Aires had a job/obligation waiting for them, they would only stay a night at the hotel, but if they were still trying to figure things out, they would stay for about a week! I attached some pictures from the visit below!
After getting back from the museum, I went shopping for souvenirs/gifts for my mom and two sisters, in which that was accomplished at a jewelry store (I know you’re reading the blog mom, I won’t say what I got you!). We also went into some other stores such as a leather store, perfume store, and the store Zara, which we have in the United States as well. We also grabbed dinner at Saigon Noodle Bar, and this was my second time there, but I tried Pho for the first time! I was in the mood for a soup, so I really enjoyed it. We then went back to the hotel and tried ketchup chips for the first time (thanks to Lynnea!), and I thought they were really good. Overall, today was a very busy, but good day, and I can’t believe we only have a couple days left in Argentina! I’ll be back to update tomorrow 🙂
