Campus Tour and Boat Ride – Blog 11

The day started with us getting a tour of University of Amsterdam business school. Their business school has the largest number of people than any of the other schools. We got to see different buildings related to different types of business. Examples include the law school and economics building. The tour I was on was led by a student named Thomas. The buildings are very modern on the inside. Each building has bike rooms where students can keep their bicycle there throughout the day. As you can tell from this the campus is very bike friendly like the city. The city has many shops to repair or rent bicycles. Then we got lunch and got to eat with the university students in their cafeteria.

After that we went on a canal boat cruise throughout the city of Amsterdam. When you first get on, you see earbuds laying there that you can use to listen along to the audio. You do this by choosing which language you would like to hear the information with. We got to hear a lot about the architecture of the buildings around and the history involved with them. It was nice to sit there and relax in a boat. I didn’t realize how long the canals go. We were probably on the boat for an hour.

Next, we all went to go walk around the city as we still had a good amount of free time. We discovered a few souvenir shops that were the same. Then a small group of us went to the local flea market to look around and shop. I bought a nice pair of earrings from this one booth. The market itself was definitely smaller than the vintage market, but it still had a nice variety of things. Overall, today was a good day. I learned a lot during the campus tour and more about the culture of Amsterdam.
