Chess and Czech-ers. No, Backgammon!

When today began, it seemed like nothing could go our way. We had an early morning scheduled, 5:50 am meet-up for a 6 am departure. Then, the bus was delayed, and the meet-up was moved to 6:15. Once we got on the bus, things were moving smoothly as we began the ~3 hour bus ride to the Novosad & Son Glassworks. However, while we were about a half hour away from the glass factory, one of the tires on our bus went partially flat. We pulled into a service station where we stayed for about an hour while various people tried to fix the bus. Once the tire was replaced, we headed on towards the glass factory, and arrived about an hour and a half behind schedule. Unfortunately, that meant that we had to skip the tour we would have had of the glass factory. We had a timed tour of Škoda later, and were still about 90 minutes away from that facility, so we figured it was best to get back on schedule. The factory and museum tours at Škoda were very interesting, we even learned about the models that they build for motorsport races. Once we returned to Prague, a group of us went on a Ghost Tour of the city. It was a lot of fun, and the tour guide was from Missouri, so it was neat to see another American living abroad.

My advice for others traveling to Prague would be, first and foremost, to definitely come! I have had so much fun and learned so much on this trip. My top suggestions would be to have a few key places that you want to go (museums, restaurants, parades/festivals, boat cruises), and make sure to see the main attractions, but also just walk. Some of the coolest things I discovered here was just by walking around, not walking to a place in particular. Also, walk or take public transit as much as possible because there are so many cool things to experience. One other thing that I noticed, and this might be because it is early in the summer/vacation season, but there weren’t too many people walking/driving around, so it was a very walkable city. I would recommend to come in mid-to-late May if you can. Also, the weather was nice the entire time we were here. It was never too hot, and it was only chilly/rainy a few days (or very early in the morning).
