First of all, learn a few word in Czech before departing for your trip. I have pretty much only used three of them this whole stay in Czech Republic but even making an effort at the language will make a worlds difference in your interactions with others. If your pronunciation is not perfect, don’t worry. Trying is better than nothing.
Do not be afraid to explore this city. At no point, have I felt unsafe and I have heard the same from all of my classmates. Nearly everyone is pleasant to be around and the public transit is remarkably convenient. Maps will be your best friend. Pull that up and with the help of public transit you could get across the city in no time. That being said, never let your guard down completely. Be on the lookout for scammer or people picking pockets. Not everyone will see or encounter it but these things happen here.
Take advantage of the food that the Czech Republic has. The Czech food here is obviously as authentic as it comes. If you are a big meat and potatoes person, this is the place for you. Who needs veggies. In addition to the Czech food, you will find a variety of other cuisines. There are many Italian restaurants and food spots serving dishes from multiple Asian cuisines. I have had my share of Czech dishes. There was also plenty of time for me to verify the food from other cuisines here is delicious.
Keep an open mind. There will not be a ton different in everyday life in my opinion. However, this is certainly not the United States. The country has rich culture and a complex history that can explain how it has become what it is today. If you have the time, please take some time to read up and learn about this young country.
