Nice to meet you, I’m Gab

Networking techniques that are universal are introducing yourself, shaking hands and having eye contact. It’s also nice to always be kind to people and to do your best to remember people’s names. I do not believe that there are any networking techniques that are specific to Ireland other than getting a pint of Guinness. However, it is common in Ireland and other western European countries to take a more relaxed approach to networking. In America, we are very focused on work, whereas here in Ireland people focus on getting a personal connection first.

A technique I heard today was asking for someone’s surname if you don’t remember their name. Another technique I heard was standing in a way that opens others to joining a conversation. Instead of standing in a way that closes off people, stand a bit further away inviting others to join in.
