The Last Day

Today we only had one meeting where we went to FoodCloud. It was outside the city and they have many locations, so it was a process getting to the location. We had to take the Luas and the we walked through a neighborhood. When we got there, we were given blue vests to wear in the warehouse. The representative gave us a short presentation about an overview of the company. He talked about how they collect excess food from companies and they redistribute it to charities and those in need. Their main goal is to limit food waste, help the environment, and limit food insecurity. They have made themselves part of the community by connecting with charities and helping those in need in the community.

They have been so successful because they provide a unique service that targets a serious problem. They prove a new source of food distribution that other companies do not. They are so innovative because they provide business to business services. They move food from big companies to charities.

After this presentation, he took us on a tour through the warehouse. It was interesting seeing all the products that would have gone to waste without them. He discussed how expiration dates and use by dates have a huge impact on consumer perception and food waste. This visit gave me a new perspective on issues with food distribution and the great impact this company has on food insecurity.

After this visit we made the journey home. I had the chance to finally go get souvenirs and gifts for my family. Tonight we had a farewell dinner with our whole group. It was nice being able to recap our trip and show gratitude to all the people who have helped us. We got some great Italian food and had some quality time with the group. Overall I had a great time on this trip learning about culture and business. I am grateful for this opportunity in Ireland, and I am looking forward to visiting new countries in the future. I am not looking forward to getting up early for our flight tomorrow, but I am ready to go home and enjoy the summer.
