Before I finish and post the exciting rainforest blog, I wanted to dedicated one to days 5 and 7. They were both travel days but not by typical car, plane, or train: by canoe! We were on the canoe for about 5-6 hours on both days. Day 5 was a bright sun but perfect weather. I was honestly not looking forward to this ride and figured it would be very boring. But I was happily suprised by how gorgeous the scenery was. There were so many trees and they were massive. We even spotted a rainbow!
After we arrived at the “Iyarina extension” lodging where we would be staying, it was already around 5pm. So soon enough, the sun had set and we had to learn what it was like to have zero electricity. While eating dinner, we used candlelight and in the rooms, we used our phone flashlight. The running water was limited so we had to take very quick showers. I was ready for bed and assumed it was late. Then, I looked at my phone and realized it was only 8:30PM. But, I had a good nights rest and heard relaxing rain sounds throughout the night.
Day 7, we headed back to our lodge and didn’t get so lucky with the weather. It was nice at first and we were able to see a bunch of birds, even a toucan! But soon enough, it started downpouring. It’s not called the RAINforest for nothing. As the canoe filled up with water, we had to start taking a bucket and scooping the water out. It was definetly an experience to remember. Good news is we did get to see some monkeys swinging around the branches! I don’t have a photo because my phone would’ve become drenched, but you can picture it.
