german goodbyes

At 12:00 am we turn din our room keys and got on the bus for the last time. We got to the airport around 1 AM and checked in for our 3 AM flight to Frankfurt. These past two weeks went by very fast but with all the company visits and cultural sites we saw, we were pretty tired and ready to head home. This trip has taught me how to immerse myself in a new culture with people I didn’t know and see business and engineering daily interactions on a global scale.

Our first flight was only a few hours so we were in Frankfurt by 7 am. The first group to philly and pitt left pretty quickly but my group to Newark had 4 ours in the airport. We got one last celebratory “authentic” german hotdog. It was so weird to say goodbye to people I did everything with for the past two weeks at a random gate in a german airport but refreshing to know we would all be on campus in the fall.

Although smoking culture is very popular in Europe it was still so foreign to me to see smoking lunges in airports about every 10 gates. This would never be common in American airports and you would actually more commonly see “No smoking” signs.

Our second and last flight was around 9 hours and pretty turbulent but I was able to sleep for a lot of it. I was next to two of my amazing new friends I made on this trip and we talked and shared memories for a good amount of the flight. This trip as taught me to get along with people in a group environment and put differences aside. I am so lucky to have had the opportunity to participate in plus3 Cyprus and hope any future student does the same.
