Hello, my name is Taylor Schulz. I am currently a freshman in the College of Business Administration. While I am undecided, I am leaning towards majoring in supply chain management and finance. I am from Oreland, Pennsylvania, which is about 30 minutes from Philadelphia. I am a part of Women’s Club Water Polo, Corporate Connections at Pitt Business, and Supply Chain Management Club at Pitt. These clubs have significantly helped me gained skills in teamwork, leadership, and communication. I love trying new things, sports, art, music, and meeting new people. With my time so far at Pitt and the Plus3 program, I hope to be able to continue to grow personally, academically, and professionally.
I have been so grateful to participate in the Plus3 South Korea program so far and look forward to continuing the program into the two-week trip in May. Applying and arriving to Pitt at the beginning of the year, I already knew that I wanted to participate in the Plus3 program. On my first tour at Pitt, I was informed of the amazing opportunities that Plus3 provided and how incredible it was to be a part of the program. Since I’ve never traveled abroad before, I thought that this program would also be a great starting point to determine if I wanted to pursue other study abroad opportunities further in my academic career. When looking over the different locations, South Korea caught my eye because of the topic of smart systems. Technology has become such an important aspect of society. As it keeps evolving and improving, it is assisting society in making efficient decisions and helping them manage their daily lives. I am interested in learning how advanced technology has evolved to as well as how important its used in South Korea.
During the trip to South Korea, I hope to be able to learn and immerse myself in Korean culture, getting to experience first-hand how it differs from culture in the United States. I am looking forward to going to the university and company site visits to see how business culture works internationally. As I am still deciding what I want to do in my professional career, learning about international business culture will be important if I want to travel internationally in my career choice. Lastly, as someone who loves different cuisines, I am excited to try the food in Korea and what food is traditional in Korean society.
As we near less than a month before the trip, I am so grateful to be a part of this experience so far and cannot wait to travel to South Korea to learn and experience a different part of the world.
