Introduction

Hello,

My name is Lindsey Bomgardner. I am an only child and was adopted from China as an infant. I grew up in Eastern Pennsylvania. I enjoy art and music. I like drawing and painting as a way to relax and be creative. I listen mainly to pop and alt/indie music but also like various other music genres such as rock, musical, movie scores, and instrumental/traditional. I like watching TV shows and movies. I watch a lot of fantasy, action, and dramas. I love animals and have 3 dogs and 3 cats back at home.

I am a first year engineering student currently at Pitt. I am majoring in engineering science with a concentration in engineering mechanics. I would like to get minors in math and material science along with an Asian Studies certificate. Outside of classes, I am involved in the ballroom dance and k-pop clubs at Pitt. I have competed with both Pitt and Carnegie Mellon for various ballroom competitions in Pennsylvania and surrounding states.

My chosen Plus3 program is the smart systems program in Seoul, South Korea. I will go to Seoul for 2 weeks in May to visit different cultural locations such as Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bukhansan National Park. I will also visit some companies in Korea like Samsung and Hyundai. I chose this program because I have always wanted to learn more about East Asia and its different countries. Since I was adopted from China, I want to learn more about Asian culture and how it is different from the culture in the US. I hope to learn more about Korean culture and the current state of technology through this program. I also hope it will help me learn if I would like to pursue a longer term study abroad program in the future either in Korea or in some other East Asian country . One of the places we are visiting is Yonsai University. This is one of the universities partnered with Pitt for a semester long study abroad program.
