Introduction – Zoe Fitzsimmons

Hi! My name is Zoe Fitzsimmons and I am a first-year student in the Swanson School of Engineering. I am currently pursuing a major in chemical engineering. I am also hoping to earn minors in chemistry and bioengineering. Professionally, I am considering entering the healthcare industry. However, I am excited to explore and learn more about other ChemE applications, and my main goal is to use what I will learn at Swanson to make meaningful and sustainable contributions to society.

I am from Pittsburgh, PA, specifically Fox Chapel, about 20 minutes from campus! Outside of school, I love spending time with friends and family, trying new food, playing sports, and being outdoors. I also love listening to all kinds of music and enjoy playing the violin. At Pitt, I am involved in Alpha Delta Pi social sorority, SWE, and I am hoping to join the SOAR club and and AIChE next year. This summer, I am so excited to visit North Carolina with my best friends and spend time biking and hiking in the national parks. I am also beyond excited to travel to the Netherlands for Plus3!!

I chose Plus3 The Netherlands because I am so excited to explore its culture and innovation. The Netherlands has made so much progress in terms of sustainability. I am so excited to visit places such as the Floating Farm and the world’s first 3D printed bridge, and learn more about sustainable engineering feats first-hand. As a chemical engineer, I am looking forward to visiting Nouryon, a specialty chemicals company with a focus on sustainability. I also was very excited by the idea of concept-to-customer, in terms of someone who wants to make products for people in the future. I am excited to expand my experiences on a global scale, meet new people, and learn as much as I can from this program!
