Helena está muy emocionado para Costa Rica!

Hello! My name is Helena Bohmann, and I am a freshman at the University of Pittsburgh studying Human Resources Management with a minor in Spanish. This program is the perfect combination of my interests, and I am super excited to learn more about the industries and culture.

Costa Rica is a beautiful country known for its lush rainforests and agriculture. They are also recognized as a world leader in conservation because of their enormous efforts in sustainability. Costa Rica uses these efforts to improve the country as a whole. They have a strong focus in rehabilitating and conserving the forest ecosystems as over half of the land of Costa Rica is forested. This land directly effects the agricultural industry, which impacts people’s income. The efforts that the country is doing with in agriculture is improving the efficiency of the food process to ensure less waste and emissions of greenhouse gases. This is strongly focused on the coffee and banana industries. Costa Rica is also working toward complete use of renewable energy and clean technologies. All of these initiatives are working toward the goal of mitigating and reducing climate change.

The heavy focus on sustainability and climate initiatives makes Costa Rica look impressive and progressive. They are doing a lot of work that other countries are not doing and making break throughs that not only benefit their country but the whole world. Their efforts make me excited to visit and learn more about how their work in sustainability is benefiting the economy of the country.

I am super excited to travel to Costa Rica and use my Spanish skills! I chose Costa Rica as my location for +3 because I wanted an opportunity to combine my major and my minor. This trip will allow me to practice speaking with native speakers for the first time. I am excited to be emersed in the culture and learn so much about the Costa Rican way of life. I am also super excited to explore the rainforests and see all the nature the country has to offer.

Can’t wait to see everyone in Costa Rica, T-4 days!
