That’s right. Today is the day before I get to depart to South Korea! I am so excited for the trip since I have never been outside the country before, and I had been waiting for this moment throughout the past semester. As an engineering student, I have been very excited for learning about the smart systems of Korea.
In the weeks leading up to the trip, I had to prepare for the trip in a number of ways. This included calling my credit card company, my bank, and my phone company to let them know about my plans for the trip. This meant I had to put a notice on my credit card and get cellular data for the trip. In terms of the bank, I was able to acquire some of the Korean currency, the Korean Won. I had never seen Won before, so I had to first determine what the currency exchange rate was. Only after a quick google search was I able to determine the rate to see how much I had and what the cost was.
In the final weeks of the semester, I had to study a lot for my engineering finals which were not easy in any way. This meant that I had to hold off my excitement for the trip so that I could do the best that I could on these exams. As my parents put it, you have to pass your classes first before you are allowed to have fun.
Today, I look forward on what this trip entails. I am a little anxious about what the trip will bring and what I will experience as a result. I know the Korean culture is a lot different than mine here in the United States and I’m intrigued with how the Korean way of life differs from mine. Additionally, I am excited to see what the world has to offer and how it will enhance my understanding of how the world operates both as a society and in terms of engineering.
