Pre-departure Journal

Hello everyone,

Today was a typical travel day for me. I woke up, made sure I had packed everything I needed, and got dropped off at the airport. I’ve been on the plane from Ronald Reagan Airport to Pittsburgh International more times than I can count since it’s the flight I use to get home for the holidays. I checked my bags, bought lunch and snacks, and waited until the gates opened. It took longer than I’m used to for the plane to take off, but that’s because the airport was busier than when I usually fly. There was a little bit of turbulence at the beginning and end of the flight, but it wasn’t as bad as the one time I had to fly through a rainstorm! I hit a bit of a snag when the bus from the airport took longer than expected, but I made it in time to get the itinerary and dinner.

It was good to see everyone again after the week’s break. Everyone is really excited for the trip, and so am I! We caught up as we ate our dinner, and we got Korean cookies flavored with pumpkin and honey for dessert- they were delicious. Afterwards, we were divided into teams based on our department and gender: boys and girls, engineering and business. The teams played a game doing emergency packing for tomorrow, and then we voted on which team had the best supplies. My team (engineering girls) won! We chose the most pragmatic items we could, but other teams chose some outlandish items (one team chose caviar). After that, we practiced a Korean dance challenge together, though it took a while to get everyone up to dance. Hopefully we’ll all remember it when we do it in public later…

Now we are all back in the dorms for the night, writing these journals. Everyone knows to be ready for departure at 2:40 AM, but only a few of us will go to sleep tonight. Others are planning to get their sleep on the plane. Either way, we’ll all be super tired by the time we get to Korea, but it’s worth it. Until next time!
