Today we spent our first day in the Netherlands. After waking up at 6:30 EST, we hit the road at 7:30 to begin our adventure. First we had a layover in Boston, and by the time we arrived to Amsterdam, it was 11:30 EST. Of course, the local time was 5:30 am, so a new day began without us having slept a night.
Check in at our hotel wasn’t until three, so we did a long scavenger hunt around Amsterdam. It was exhausting, but fun to see the sights. The canals and bridges are beautiful, and I was struck by how impressive the architecture is in Amsterdam.
After that we ate lunch, and finally at three we checked into the hotel. After napping for a couple hours, we left for our dinner reservations at seven. We travelled using the metro system to get to dinner, and it was fascinating to see the similarities and differences between how public transportation works in America and other counties.
Ultimately, the last thirty something hours have been some of the most exhausting of my life. I’m so tired it’s hard to fully enjoy the experience, so I’m excited to get a good nights rest and start tomorrow new again.
