Day 1: The Sky is The Stage We Stand On

After a grueling day of packing and anxiously awaiting our flight in Nordenberg, the South Korea +3 group boarded our flight to Atlanta.

Before our flight, I contemplated sleeping, but instead chose the latter and stayed up till our 3:00 AM departure. Although we left early, we were not able to check in our baggage till an hour after we got to the airport. Unfortunately, this left us in a time crunch. Luckily, we were able to manage. I tried my best to stay up and sleep when it would be normal sleeping time in South Korea, however my attempt was futile as I passed out as soon as the flight took off for Atlanta.

Usually, I hate flying, but the flights went by fast. The 15 hour flight to South Korea was well spent. I was fast asleep for the first few hours, but then I explored the movie options Delta had to offer. I watched the second movie in the Spiderverse animation sequence. Afterwards, I rewatched my favorite movie Past Lives. On the note of Past Lives, the movie is partly set in Seoul! The movie really got me in the mood for the trip.

I was worried that since we reached the hotel at around 5:00 pm that we would not have time to begin exploring the city, but we had an ample amount of time to explore the surrounding area of Myeongdong. In Myeongdong, I indulged in some renowned South Korean street food! I tried tanghulu and barbecue sauce covered tteokbeoki. Additionally, I explored different stores along the streets. I walked through jewelry, clothing, and skin care shops. I ended up buying a serum, a Hello Kitty Plush, and some hair ties!

The highlight of the day definitely had to have been visiting a cat cafe!

Even just walking a block down from the hotel showed me the rich culture Korea has to offer. I am so excited to continue exploring Seoul!
