After a full day of traveling, we started our day bright and early on the tram to head to the University of Augsburg to hear from Audi but also to learn more about our assigned companies. Afterward, we got to experience the cafeteria, which I think was nothing like Pitt’s dining hall. I was shocked to see the chaos of people cutting in front of one another and the long lines since I feel the Eatery is much calmer. I think this was the case in Augsburg because one of the German students said that lectures had just finished and everyone was getting food.
As soon as we left the cafeteria, we headed towards the center of campus to get a campus tour. For me, I felt completely normal with how the campus was set up, but I later found out that this type of environment is very unusual for Europe. One aspect I found interesting was how they do not have any sports teams or official dorms. The sports facility was very large and was used leisurely instead of for academic purposes. I believe that the university does not have dorms because it is more common to live in a separate apartment. We were told that students are there for 3 years which could be another reason to just get in apart whereas in the US, students can end up staying for almost 5-6 years.
Lastly, we headed to dinner after our scavenger hunt where we got to eat some Italian food and chat with more of the German students. throughout the hunt, it was very interesting to learn about the dome and more history of the city. It was fun to walk through the grocery store and learn about the different ways they sell items. For example, they do not refrigerate eggs or milk, unlike the US. It was something I had never seen and will never see in the United States.
